Paradise Birmingham

Cyclists across the city and region are being consulted about creating Birmingham’s first large scale cycle hub at Paradise Birmingham.

The cycle hub will contribute to Birmingham’s cycling revolution and will be housed in the basement of One Centenary Way, the first building to be built as part of the second phase of Paradise Birmingham. It will have space for up to 440 bikes.

One Centenary Way received planning permission from Birmingham City Council last month and is due to be completed during the first half of 2022.

Part of the planning behind Paradise Birmingham is all about creating connections across the city and being a centre of sustainable development. An increase in cycling provision and use across the city needs to be supported with relevant infrastructure and the cycle hub is part of this.

The team at Paradise Birmingham has now teamed up with Birmingham City Council and TfWM to try and gauge demand for the cycle hub and its services from cyclists themselves. A short survey is being used to gather views and opinions.

As well as catering to those working in and visiting Paradise Birmingham itself, the hub will be open to any cyclists who travel into the city centre. The first stage of designing the hub is all about asking the city’s cyclists what they would like to see at such a facility. This may include bike stands, lockers, showers, on-site staff and maintenance facilities. Cyclists will have use of the hub and its facilities through a membership scheme.

Cycle hubs have been successful in London and other British cities and we are looking forward to bringing forward more details about our scheme.

We fully understand many of the issues and challenges local cyclists face every day which is why we want to create something that helps get people onto their bikes and supports their choice of transportation.

At 1.8 million square feet, Paradise Birmingham will deliver up to ten new flagship buildings, offering offices, shops, bars, cafés, restaurants and a four star hotel across 17 acres in the heart of Birmingham.

The Paradise redevelopment is being brought forward through Paradise Circus Limited Partnership (PCLP), a private-public joint venture with Birmingham City Council. The private sector funding is being managed by Hermes Investment Management which has partnered with Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) on the first phase of the development. Argent is the development manager.

Paradise Birmingham sits in the country’s largest city centre Enterprise Zone and has already benefited from investment by the Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership (GBSLEP) in enabling and infrastructure works.
