Paradise Platinum Jubilee Family Day

A big Jubilee thank you to everyone who came along to our Family Jubilee Day on Wednesday 1st June in and around Chamberlain Square.

With a whole host of events and family-oriented activities in the square, lots of people came and joined in the fun with giant Beefeaters, Queen’s Guards stilt walkers and the selfie-inducing Hedge People parading through the estate all day.

The weather was kind and crowds abounded in the centre of Birmingham as we celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee as part of the city’s wider festivities.

Queen Elizabeth II has been on the throne for 70 years, since 1952, making her the longest serving monarch in British history. She was crowned on 2 June 1953 at Westminster Abbey, the mother church of the nation, a year after she ascended the throne.

It was the first coronation ever to be televised to a global audience and was watched by many millions of people across the world.

Our special day of celebration in honour of her Majesty included the toe-tapping tunes of the roaming brass band and free ice creams from our bicycle cart.

Street artists created traditional games like hopscotch and snakes and ladders for traditional “playing out” fun for all the family.
