Dishoom comes to Paradise Birmingham

Dishoom, the Indian restaurant that pays loving homage to the Irani cafés and food of Bombay, is coming to Paradise Birmingham in spring 2020.

Dishoom’s choice of location underlines the huge potential for retail and leisure occupiers at Paradise with its location in the very heart of the city, revamped public squares and footfall of more than 46,000 people per day – 17 million a year.

Dishoom Birmingham will occupy part of the ground floor of One Chamberlain Square, the office space of which is fully let to international professional services firm PwC which will also be moving into the building early next year. The new restaurant will overlook both Chamberlain Square and Centenary Way and will help complete the first phase of the development.

Rob Groves, regional director at Argent, said:

“Bringing the critically acclaimed Dishoom to Birmingham demonstrates the appeal of Paradise with its perfect mix of location, top quality buildings and revamped public realm. Joining Mediterranean Wine Bar and restaurant Vinoteca, we are quickly becoming the natural choice for innovative leisure retailers keen on reaching an audience of up to 17 million people a year.”

Dishoom pays loving homage to the Irani cafés that were once part of the fabric of life in Bombay. These cafés broke down barriers by bringing people together over food and drink. Like these cafés, Dishoom warmly welcomes all. Executive chef Naved Nasir’s lovingly curated menu of Bombay comfort food brings together the dishes of all Bombay – dishes from Irani, Parsi, Hindu and Muslim traditions all jostle for space on the table.

The menu will be served alongside a new chef special, unique to Birmingham, and will take guests from breakfast to lunch, dinner and late-night tipples. The restaurant will also feature a Permit Room bar, serving Dishoom’s award-winning cocktails, teetotal tipples, house chai and more.

The restaurant will open in a 7,606 sq ft space at the front of One Chamberlain Square, overlooking the new public spaces and Congreve Street. Dishoom Birmingham, the team’s eighth Bombay café, will have a unique story and design narrative inspired by the unique connections between Bombay and Birmingham.

BAM Construction is currently completing the building of both One Chamberlain Square and Two Chamberlain Square. Overlooking the Grade 1 listed Town Hall, Victorian Council House and Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, One and Two Chamberlain Square sit at the heart of Paradise with direct access from the refurbished Chamberlain Square.

At almost 2 million square feet, Paradise will deliver up to ten new flagship buildings, offering offices, shops, bars, cafés, restaurants and a four star hotel across 17 acres in the heart of the city.

The Paradise redevelopment is being brought forward through Paradise Circus Limited Partnership (PCLP), a private-public joint venture with Birmingham City Council. The private sector funding is being managed by Hermes Investment Management which has partnered with Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) on the first phase of the development. Argent is the development manager.

Paradise sits in the country’s largest city centre Enterprise Zone and has already benefited from investment by the Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership (GBSLEP) in enabling and infrastructure works.
