Piling Starts at One Centenary Way

A 50 tonne piling rig arrived at Paradise this week, to begin laying the foundations for the thirteen storey, 280,000 sq ft One Centenary Way building – the first building of Phase Two of Paradise.

A total of 94 piles each measuring between 18 and 32 metres will be installed over the next 19 weeks, with some reaching down to 22 metres below the level of the A38 tunnel.

The combined length of the piles is 2,228 metres or just under 1.5 miles, which is almost equivalent to 30 West Midland Metro trams end to end or the walking distance between Paradise and Birmingham Botanical Gardens!

The piles will be constructed using 5,160 tonnes of concrete, which is equivalent to the weight of 92 trams.
