Pineapples plump for Paradise

Paradise Birmingham, the £1.2 billion development transforming the heart of Birmingham, has won another industry award.

The Pineapple Awards are a major award event held annually in recognition of national and international excellence in placemaking.

The awards look for places that thrive, where people want to live, work, play, shop or learn, and which excel at design solutions through quality architecture and design.

It becomes the fifth award Paradise has won this year alone.

The awards ceremony itself was held earlier this month and Paradise won the coveted Place in Progress award, recognising the hard work that has already gone into Paradise, while also looking forward to what is still to come.

The Pineapple awards are one of the development’s industry’s leading awards events, and more than 1000 people attended this year’s ceremony, held at Boxpark Wembley in London, at the start of July.

The Pineapples are the only awards that concentrate on and celebrate the very best in placemaking. Award categories recognise excellence in community engagement, activation, active travel public space, creative retrofit, future places, place in progress and place of the year.

Ross Fittall, senior development manager at MEPC, said:

“Organised in collaboration with The Design Council, the Pineapples celebrate excellence in creating great places and that is the most important thing that Paradise has always been about, creating a new destination for Birmingham and restoring connections across the city centre, as well as creating jobs and opportunities for the city’s people.”
