A live event for everyone

By Caroline Rudge, MEPC

Paradise Live has sadly come to an end – but what a great series of events it proved for Paradise and Birmingham!

By bringing a mix of free refreshments, food, comedy shows, hands on demonstrations and acrobatic prowess to Chamberlain Square, the summer of daily entertainment really grabbed the attention of everyone who works in or visits this special corner of the city centre.

Our two weeks of food and fun, mayhem and make-believe entertained regulars, and day trippers, alike.

From the feedback received, and the many hundreds of people who engaged with the events, we’re happy to have provided a base for families and individuals during the summer holidays and even allowed moms and dads to enjoy some sunshine on the bleachers!

  • From shows and workshops to ice cream giveaways, there was always lots going on! Highlights included:
Circus Workshop – anyone who came to one of our Circus Skills workshops was offered the chance to try their hand at plate spinning, juggling or other highly skilful circus trickery!
  • Man on the Moon – a clever comedy and circus show including contortionism and bottle balancing. There was also a spectacular finale where the audience had to help achieve a very tricky balancing act!
  • Bicycle Bistro – the bistro with the eccentric waiters entertained the crowd with slapstick comedy, acrobatics, juggling and general café mayhem!
  • Comedy Waiters – this dinner service combined captivating silent comedy with graceful slapstick. Performed to a rousing soundtrack of all time classics, witnesses saw the waiters’ hilarious boyband homage as well as a dramatic theatrical finale. There was also ice cream giveaways, mouth-watering pastries from Albert’s Schloss and handmade soft drinks from Dishoom.
  • All in all, Paradise Live provided the ideal way to spend a summer’s day in the heart of the city.

We can’t wait for our next events, coming soon!
