Building careers at Paradise Birmingham

Paradise Birmingham has announced two senior promotions for the estate to drive forward its commitment to delivering the best occupier experience and customer service across the £1.2 billion business, leisure, residential and visitor destination at the heart of the city.
Following 18 months as Paradise Estate Manager, Matthew Walters has taken up a new role as Building Manager at One Centenary Way, the estate’s largest and busiest commercial building and home to occupiers including Arup, Goldman Sachs, JLL, Mills & Reeve and Quilter Cheviot. Matthew has more than a decade of facilities management experience across retail, leisure and commercial destinations.
New Estate Manager, Lee Wileman, has taken up the role following two years as the estate’s Security Manager responsible for the day-to-day safety and security of the estate. Lee is a security and facilities management professional with over 15 years’ experience in the security industry and 9 years military service, including high-profile contracts, diplomatic protection, counter-terrorism operations, and corporate security management.
The high-profile appointments to the estate facilities management team, delivered through Avison Young, reflect the approach from Paradise developer and asset manager MEPC to actively support the careers of the dedicated onsite team and deliver best in class customer service to all Paradise occupiers and those visiting the estate.
Caroline Rudge, Commercial Manager at Paradise developer and asset manager, MEPC, said:
“It is always great to see talented people progress in their careers and it is very rewarding to see both Matt and Lee being acknowledged for their drive and commitment to making Paradise a leading destination for everyone.
We’re committed to enabling people at every level to learn and develop and move forward in their career by offering new opportunities across the estate. Being responsive to others to make Paradise even stronger and more resilient in how it is run and how it protects the communities and environment around us is an essential part of how we deliver a safe, secure and rewarding environment for all those working, living or visiting the estate.
Already home to more than 6,000 employees across over 50 different businesses operating at the estate, Paradise is supporting new jobs, skills and opportunities for the people of Birmingham and the wider region.
Matthew Walters, One Centenary Way Building Manager, said:
Working at Paradise over recent years has enabled me to gain a broad understanding of what is required to deliver a successful estate management team and the approach required to help fulfil the customer service potential of individual buildings.
“Working at One Centenary Way, I will be able to put that knowledge to further use and ensure more occupiers and their staff experience an excellent customer service offering that helps deliver on individual sustainability, net zero and social value priorities.”
Lee Wileman, Paradise Estate Manager, added:
Paradise is an estate built around people and to continue to work with the team to deliver this ethos is a huge privilege. By ensuring the estate is clean, green, welcoming and safe for everyone who visits it, works here, or lives here, is a fantastic opportunity.
Paradise supports the professional development of all its own staff as well as its occupier’s staff and encourages both communal and individual learning.
A wide range of events – both leisure-based and educational – are programmed across the estate’s buildings all year round to help build a shared culture of engagement, learning and development.
These efforts are themselves part of an even wider commitment by Paradise to both community and professional development, as demonstrated through initiatives like the tie-up with Ahead Partnership for its year-round schools programme which interacts with a wide range of Paradise occupiers and staff.
This and other initiatives are complimented by contractors, businesses, occupiers, suppliers and individuals, all making real steps to ensure all of Paradise’s estate-wide operations are socially and environmentally responsible.
