Our plans for a new 152 bedroom hotel at Paradise will help to provide much needed choice in the business and leisure travel markets in the centre of the city.

The form of the 17 storey hotel includes a number of design features, including a repeating vertical window recess that will make the building truly stand out.

It will become a landmark in its own right and create a new amenity for the city, allowing visitors to stay in, as well as visit, the Paradise estate.

Designed through a collaboration between hotel experts ISA Architecture & Design and Paradise masterplanners Glenn Howells Architects.

The hotel will bring immediate life and activity to this corner of Paradise, with ground floor uses spilling out onto Western Terrace, creating a focal point on this key pedestrian route linking to Birmingham’s westside.

Crowned by a Sky Bar providing city views, the mix of 152 bedrooms offers standard, family and penthouse accommodation, all supported by the reception, bar and restaurant at ground floor.

FAQs

Do we need another hotel?

Yes. The new hotel replaces bedrooms lost by the closure of the nearby Copthorne Hotel. The Hotel will provide a boutique offering, adding to the city’s variety of accommodation.

The location of the hotel will make this new amenity an asset for the city and help bring life to Paradise Street.

Who is designing the new hotel?

The new hotel is being designed by hotel specialists ISA Architecture & Design (ISA), (www.isarchitects.co.uk), with external finishes and elevations led by Glenn Howells Architects (GHA). (www.glennhowells.co.uk).

What is happening to the Copthorne?

This building has now closed and will be demolished in due course to help facilitate Phase Three of Paradise.

The Copthorne was identified to be demolished in the original outline planning permission for Paradise. Its demolition will support and enable the delivery of the third and final phase at Paradise.

Will there be enough car parking for these new buildings?

Paradise has an allocation of up to 550 parking spaces located underneath the buildings. The first 300 spaces will be opening later this year.

A 312 space cycle hub is being brought forward as part of the development of One Centenary Way, which is due to complete in early 2023.

Paradise is also promoting new pedestrian links across the city and supporting new modes of sustainable transport.

Why do the designs for these buildings look different to earlier imagery?

The original outline planning permission was supported by a number of images which were included purely to illustrate how the development might look in the future. The detailed design of these buildings has been progressing over several years.

ISA and FCB Studios were selected as the architects for the Hotel and Three Chamberlain Square following design competitions held in 2012 and 2020 respectively. Since being selected as architects, their designs for these buildings have further progressed and developed into the schemes currently being consulted on.

How sustainable are these new buildings?

Every new building at Paradise is being designed to be a sustainable new addition to the city with flexible floorplates and shared amenities. The buildings are being designed to meet the highest industry standards for sustainability, efficiency and carbon reduction.

Wider sustainability measures in the Paradise development include electric charging points within the car park, and the inclusion of trees and biodiverse roofs.

Sustainable transport methods are also encouraged when accessing Paradise due to its excellent location, pedestrian links and public transport availability.
